Special-edition Funny Cars always part of the Indy scene
Tuesday, August 31, 2010
Special-edition paint jobs for the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Lucas Oil have been a regular part of the event's landscape for years, and the 2010 edition of the Big Go will be no exception.
Reigning Full Throttle Funny Car world champ Robert Hight has already announced that his Automobile Club of Southern California Mustang will bear a livery saluting last year's championship season, and fellow Ford campaigner Bob Tasca III and former world and event champ Cruz Pedregon also will sport special paint for the event, which marks the beginning of NHRA's Countdown to the Championship playoffs.
For the second time this season, Tasca Racing, with NASCAR teammate Wood Brothers Racing, will switch from their familiar red Motorcraft schemes to the blue-and-white colors of FordParts.com during Labor Day weekend, Sept. 3-6. Launched in June, FordParts.com allows repair shops, body shops, fleets, and do-it-yourselfers to order Genuine Ford and Motorcraft parts online.
Earlier this summer, Tasca ran his FordParts.com Shelby Mustang Funny Car at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park during the NHRA SuperNationals and won the race, marking his third win and the first for the online retailer.
That same weekend, Bill Elliott raced his No. 21 FordParts.com Ford Fusion at the Michigan Int'l Speedway race.
As a tribute to its more than 4,500 franchisees, Pedregon's Snap-on Funny Car will feature a special wrap.
“Our franchisees are the backbone of our business, so we thought this was a great way to recognize them for all they do for Snap-on,” said Alicia Smales, vice president of marketing for Snap-on Tools. “Since each of our franchisees owns their own business, we felt it was only fitting that we put this special Snap-on wrap on the car of another small-business owner, Cruz Pedregon.”
This will be the second special wrap that the Snap-on Funny Car has sported. In recognition of Snap-on’s 90th anniversary, the Snap-on Funny Car featured a design in Brainerd that commemorated Snap-on’s 90 years. At the U.S. Nationals, the Snap-on Franchise Funny Car and Pedregon Racing team will be entertaining more than 1,000 customers and franchisees at the track.
Jim Dunn Racing will unveil a special paint scheme on its Canidae Pet Foods/Lucas Oil/WileyX Chevy Funny Car. The new colors will showcase one of Canidae’s newer products, Canidae Grain Free Salmon Formula, made entirely without grains and featuring high quality, cold water Pacific Salmon meal.
“What a great way to introduce one of our new products,” said Frank Hon, CANIDAE director of operations. “We’ve been getting a wave of positive feedback from dog owners for its healthy benefits and remarkable palatability, so we’re excited to share it with our great NHRA fans.”
“Canidae has been a great sponsor and we enjoy a great relationship with them,” said Jim Dunn, team owner and crew chief. “We’re proud to introduce one of its new products on our Funny Car and continue to promote its message of Responsible Pet Ownership. Now we’ll have to be sure and get some Salmon Formula for our team dog, Daisy.”
